Day trips from Hobart take visitors to Port Arthur Historic Site, one of Australia’s most important convict penal settlements operating between 1830 and 1877. Set on 40 landscaped hectares there are over 30 buildings and ruins to explore.
Historic Richmond has Australia’s oldest bridge still in use. The majestic sandstone arches of the convict-built bridge have spanned the Coal River since 1825. New Norfolk on the banks of the Derwent River was settled in 1807 by Norfolk Island evacuees and claims to be the antique capital of Tasmania.
