Departing on our luxury ‘Gold Class’ coach from Brisbane Transit Centre on Roma Street, we travel through the fertile Lockyer Valley to climb the Great Dividing Range to Toowoomba. We break at Picnic Point perched high on the crest of the range offering views back across the valley and beyond. We then travel further on through Oakey to the heritage-listed Woolshed at Jondaryan, the oldest and largest operating woolshed of its kind in the world. After a tour and lunch, we continue on to Australia’s melon capital, Chinchilla.
3 Night Stay: Chinchilla Palms Motor Inn
Today we get to know the locals and take a discovery tour of Chinchilla with a local guide visiting the Folk Museum and a local melon farm. As Chinchilla produces 25% of Australian melons, we learn from the best how to grow the tastiest melons. We also take in the Cactoblastis monument which details the destruction of the prickly pear by the Cactoblastis moth in Queensland and northern New South Wales. Tonight, the bulls and broncs are the stars as we take in a real outback rodeo. Entertainment includes bull rides, saddle bronc rides and the ever-popular barrel racing.
