Day 1    (MT,L,D) Brisbane - Port Macquarie

Departing on our opulent ‘Diamond Class’ coach from Brisbane CBD, we travel south down the coast to New Italy for lunch. Our afternoon takes us through Coffs Harbour to Port Macquarie where we stay the evening.

1 Night Stay: Sails Resort, Port Macquarie

Day 2    (B,MT,L,D) Port Macquarie - Kiama

This morning we leave Port Macquarie, take a break at Bulahdelah, then continue on arriving at Gosford for lunch. We then skirt around Sydney before our afternoon takes us along the stunning Grand Pacific Drive for an exhilarating journey on the Seacliff Bridge towards Wollongong. We pass by Lake Illawarra before arriving in the beautiful seaside town of Kiama.

2 Night Stay: The Sebel Harbourside Kiama

Day 3    (B,L,D) Kiama

eco walking

Today we discover the sights of Kiama starting first at the famous blowhole, a natural rock formation that spouts seawater high into the air (weather and tide permitting). We then head to Illawarra Fly, Australia’s premier treetop walk. Here our guide takes us on the 1.5km return walk which meanders through the native rainforest with the steel walkway featuring two gently swaying cantilevered arms and a central tower rising nearly 50 metres from the forest floor. Positioned 710 metres above sea level, the stunning panoramic views take in the rainforest canopy, coastal towns and the Pacific Ocean.

Our afternoon takes us to Fitzroy Falls, situated at the head of the escarpment that leads us down to the tranquil Kangaroo Valley and the township of Berry. After some free-time to browse the local shops we return to Kiama.

Day 4    (B,MT,L,D) Kiama - Merimbula

foodwine heritage

We head south through Nowra and the seaside town of Ulladulla, to Batemans Bay. We hug the coast through Moruya, Narooma and on to Bermagui. The last leg of our day takes us along the coast road between the Bermagui National Park and the sea. Before arriving at Merimbula, we break for a visit to the Bega Cheese Heritage Centre to try their world-famous cheese and learn about the history of dairying in the Bega Valley.

1 Night Stay: Comfort Inn, Merimbula

Day 5    (B,L,D) Merimbula - Lakes Entrance

eco heritage

At Eden we take a guided tour of the Killer Whale Museum, which overlooks the Pacific Ocean and has been in operation for over 85 years. Our tour depicts the shore-based whaling operations from Twofold Bay during the 1800s and early 1900s, and also reveals the story of the legendary orca ‘Tom’ the Killer Whale, whose full skeleton is on display. We then cross the border into Victoria, travelling through the timber country of East Gippsland and on to Lakes Entrance.

2 Night Stay: Bellevue on the Lakes Hotel, Lakes Entrance

Day 6    (B,L,D) Lakes Entrance

cruise eco

We make a relaxed start to the day before joining Peels Cruises and set sail to take in the vast lakes area of Eastern Gippsland. It is not unusual to see dolphins, seals and sea birds including sea eagles, as we enjoy the natural beauty of the waterways. The skipper’s commentary gives us an insight into this vast lakes system which is the largest inland waterway in Australia. We disembark at Metung for a waterfront lunch before returning to Lakes Entrance for a free afternoon.

Day 7    (B,MT,L,D) Lakes Entrance - Inverloch

eco heritage

Today’s journey takes us through Sale, travelling south of the Strzelecki Ranges and along the South Gippsland Highway to the township of Yarram. We continue on to the coastal fishing village of Port Welshpool, taking a look at the restoration project of their famed Long Jetty which was built in 1927. Next up we head to Wilsons Promontory affectionately known as ‘The Prom’, the southernmost point of mainland Australia with stunning coastal scenery and pristine wilderness. We finish our day hugging the coast and travelling through Wonthaggi before crossing the bridge to Phillip Island.

2 Night Stay: RACV Resort, Inverloch

Day 8    (B,L,D) Inverloch

cruise eco foodwine

Our day takes us to Phillip Island where we start at Panny’s Amazing World of Chocolate developing a delicious addiction, with chocolates to taste, try and buy, at this wondrous factory, café and art gallery that celebrates all things chocolate. Enjoy a traditional meal of fish and chips before we board Wildlife Coast Cruises’ spectacular two-hour coastal wildlife cruise to experience an up-close encounter with thousands of seals at Australia’s largest fur seal colony.

It is impossible not to be captivated by these naturally playful and inquisitive animals, as they regularly approach the boat for a closer look at us. Along the way, enjoy the beautiful coastline and learn all about the history of Phillip Island’s western shoreline. For an enchanting finale to the day, we make our way to Phillip Island Nature Park for the famous Penguin Parade. As dusk falls, watch at eye level from premium underground viewing as hundreds of adorable little penguins — also called fairy penguins, as they are the smallest in the world — emerge from the ocean and waddle across the sand and shrub to their nearby burrows.

Day 9    (B,L,D) Inverloch to Melbourne

eco foodwine steamtrain walking

Leaving Inverloch, we travel through West Gippsland into the Dandenong Ranges National Park to Belgrave nestled in Sherbrooke Forest. Here we board the Puffing Billy for a steam & cuisine luncheon. After mains are served we arrive at Lakeside Station to disembark the train and explore picturesque Emerald Lake.
