3rd May 2019
Departing on our luxury ‘Diamond Class’ coach from Brisbane Transit Centre, we travel through the fertile Lockyer Valley to climb the Great Dividing Range and arrive at Darling Downs Zoo. Take in the ranger talks as we discover the geographical areas of Australia, Southeast Asia, Africa and South America. The zoo features the only pride of African lions in Queensland, baboons, marmosets, the endangered Sumatran tiger, tropical birds, crocodiles, tortoises and many more! We then continue on to The Summit at Stanthorpe to get our first taste of the local wines and liquors at Castle Glen Vineyard. The Castle Glen Distillery is the only whiskey manufacturer in Queensland offering all natural world class Liqueurs, Red Wine, White Wine, Sparkling Wine, Fortified Wines, Boutique Beer, Ciders and specialty items such as jams and fudge! We then make our way to our accommodation to check-in.
3 Night Stay: The Vines Motel & Cottages, Stanthorpe
Today we journey south via Willsons Downfall and Boonoo Boonoo to Tenterfield in New England. Joining a local guide, we take a town tour enjoying sights such as the Tenterfield Saddler and historic Cork Tree before arriving at Stannum House. This local landmark is a fully restored Victorian-era Italianate villa packed with antiques and a history stretching back 300 years. After a tour of the beautifully restored rooms we enjoy lunch then return to Stanthorpe. Tonight we dine at the award winning Varias Restaurant at the Queensland College of Wine Tourism.
This morning we allow time for you to dress in your fineries, ready for a magical day of ‘Opera in the Vineyard’ at the beautiful Ballandean Estate Winery. This black tie event features world class performers, award winning wines and spectacular scenery. Our afternoon of VIP treatment begins as we settle into our premium front row seating. The decadence continues as we take in lunch at this premier cultural event considered the jewel of the Granite Belt’s social calendar. Today is set to deliver an intoxicating mix of music, wine, food and great company in a sublime setting.
A later start this morning after our night out. We begin our day at Lawdogs Australia, Australia’s first privately owned breeding and training kennel open to the public. Be captivated as you see the dogs training for future arrest scenarios, controlling suspects, finding hidden scent, working around agility equipment, developing their bite skills, and barking on command. It’s an hour of entertainment you will never forget! Leaving the Granite Belt behind we continue north through Warwick to Bestbrook Mountain Resort. Here we take in the country air aboard an authentic wagon ride then enjoy lunch whilst savouring the mountain views. Later we return to Brisbane Transit Centre at approximately 4:30pm.
