On arrival at Cairns airport you will be greeted by your Fun Over Fifty tour host. Board our signature ‘Gold Class’ coach for a short drive to Cairns Marina, where our hotel is situated. Free time to explore the waterfront and purchase some lunch before we meet for group check-in after 2pm.
1 Night Stay: Shangri-La Hotel, The Marina, Cairns
Departing Cairns sit back and relax and watch landscapes change from the World Heritage-listed rainforest on to untamed reaches of the outback. We break for morning tea at Lake Barrine followed by an informative relaxing rainforest and wildlife cruise around the volcanic crater brim, providing a close-up view of one of the most complex and amazing rainforest eco-systems in the world. From here we make our way to Ravenshoe to break for lunch before our afternoon travels take us to Mount Surprise checkingin to beautifully restored turn of the century railway carriages.
2 Night Stay: Undara Lava Tubes
Join a local Savannah guide for a tour of the Undara Lava Tubes. Immerse yourself in the unique landscapes as you take a guided walk through the lava tubes; learn how the geological wonder was created by volcanic activity millions of years ago; and discover the unusual ecosystem of the sunken rainforest that has sprung up around the caves. The afternoon is free to explore on your own.
On the road today we head south west, stopping for morning tea at The Lynd Oasis Roadhouse at the tiny township Conjuboy. Back on the road we travel to Greenvale where we share a drink with locals at the Three Rivers Hotel, made famous by Slim Dusty in a song with the same name. From here we make our to Charters Towers in time for lunch. We then make our way to Townsville visiting Reef HQ Great Barrier Reef Aquarium. Discover the underwater world of the UNESCO-listed Great Barrier Reef without having to step outdoors. We then make our way to our accommodation.
2 Night Stay: King Rooms, Grand Chancellor, Townsville
Discover all Magnetic Island has to offer with a friendly expert guide that will provide local knowledge as well as stories on Maggie’s history and native wildlife and flora. We’ll visit all the major sights including one or two secret spots some locals don’t even know about. Enjoy 1 hour free time in Horseshoe Bay to shop, swim and get a bite to eat. **Lunch is at own expense today.
Departing Townsville we head for the coast breaking at Ayr for cuppa and leg stretch. From here we continue south arrive at Airlie Beach for lunch and free time to browse the local shops. We then board Cruise Whitsunday’s vessel for transfers to Hamilton Island, one of 74 tropical islands that make up the Whitsundays.
3 Night Stay: Coral Sea View Rooms, Reef Hotel, Hamilton Island
Ride, beach, snorkel and bushwalk… all in one day as we head out on an adventurous jet boat tour! Enjoy the tropical waters of the Whitsundays on an all-inclusive tour with snorkelling and time to enjoy Whitehaven Beach. Take a guided bushwalk to spectacular Hill Inlet lookout to view the stunning silica sands and aqua water. Snorkel at Border Island and Dumbell Island, enjoying the amazing corals of the fringing reefs, as well as a huge range of colourful fish, turtles, clams and so much more – wetsuits are provided. **Please note: Jet Boat tour is not suitable for passengers with back and/ or neck injury as the semi rigid inflatable vessels are super-fast offering a fun, adventurous ride.
Today is a free day to enjoy and relax island style. Lunch is own expense today to offer you a chance to dine at one of the many varied restaurants on the island, or maybe catch a boat to visit neighbouring Daydream Island.
We catch the morning boat transfer back to the mainland where we re-join our ‘Gold Coach’ and begin our journey south, making a stop at the sugar town of Sarina, Australia’s sugar capital, and then to Sarina Sugar Shed, a working miniature sugar mill. We take a tour where we get a peak in to sugar cane processing and witness fully functioning sugar processing and distilling equipment in action. Afterwards you can taste some of the products made on site before sitting down for a light lunch. From the sugar capital we make our way to the beef capital of Australia, Rockhampton.
2 Night Stay: Kortes Resort, Rockhampton
This morning we explore the unique Capricorn Caves for a 1-hour underground tour of the Cathedral Cave. Follow your experienced guide into the brightly lit limestone cavern that contains rare ferns, massive tree roots, and some small bats. The high-domed Cathedral Cave is renowned for its acoustics and as a setting for special events. Near the finishing point of the tour, you can pass through the pioneer passage and walk across a suspended swinging bridge in the rain forest. We then make our way to coastal town of Yeppoon to enjoy lunch and comedy variety show at Footlights Theatre Restaurant. Our afternoon takes us on a scenic drive along the Capricorn Coast showcasing 13 beautiful beaches with views out to Great Keppel Island. We stop at Emu Park to visit the Singing Ship, a monument that commemorates the area’s legacy of the historical explorations of Captain James Cook.
We are transferred to Gladstone Marina to board the Heron Island fast cat. Located in the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef, Heron Island is a haven for nature lovers and is surrounded by pristine beaches and brilliant blue waters. Enjoy two nights at Heron Island Resort, where we join naturalist eco guides for daily activities discovering the birdlife, reef walk the coral cay formations, and discover native flora and fauna. **Fast cat transfers take 2 hours and are in open waters. For those who suffer motion sickness we strongly advise you take the necessary precautions.
2 Night Stay: Reef Room, Heron Island Resort
Take advantage of the morning and one last lunch on the island before we bid beautiful Heron Island goodbye and depart on the fast cat back to the mainland. From Gladstone we travel south arriving at the lovely coastal town of Agnes Water.

Homeward bound this morning, we break at historic Childers for a cuppa and time to visit the Palace Backpackers Memorial. After lunch in Gympie, we make our way back to the Brisbane Transit Centre arriving at approximately 4:30pm.
