Board our luxury ‘Gold Class’ coach at Roma Street Brisbane for our journey to the Southern Great Barrier Reef. We stop at the Gympie Duck Ponds for a leg stretch and morning tea before we are back on the road heading through the farming township of Childers, breaking at Gin Gin for lunch. The last leg of our journey takes us to Mount Larcom for a comfort stop before a short continuation to the coastal town of Yeppoon.
**Please note: As accommodation is apartment style, there is no service to rooms during our stay.
This morning we explore the unique Capricorn Caves for a 1-hour underground tour of Cathedral Cave. Follow your experienced guide into the brightly lit limestone cavern that contains rare ferns, massive tree roots, and some small bats. The high-domed the Cathedral Cave is renowned for its acoustics and as a setting for special events. From here we return to Yeppoon and let loose with some fun and laughter over lunch with a show at Footlights Theatre Restaurant. We then make our way to our beautiful beachfront accommodation and settle in, taking in the views from your private balcony overlooking the group of Keppel Islands.
Today we cruise through the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, the largest heritage listed area in the world. On arrival our cruise crew will advise times for our glass bottom boat venture for a coral viewing and fish feeding tour. The glass-bottom boat tour is a quiet, relaxed alternative for those wishing to view the wonders of the reef and spectacular marine life without even getting their feet wet. We then get some free time on the island, enjoying lunch overlooking the pristine waters off Great Keppel Island.
This morning we take a scenic drive along the Capricorn Coast making our way to The High Valley Dawn Permaculture Farm. The farm, a 140 acre seaside allotment, evolved from passion for wellness and sustainable development, then collided with a desire to serve fresh, local, organically grown produce at the farm’s nearby restaurant Beaches Rosslyn Bay. The farm is also home to free ranging animals - horses, ducks, chickens, cattle, sheep, 2 dogs, a pig, and a goat. We enjoy a guided ‘Paddock to Plate’ experience learning all about the farm followed with lunch savouring the produce. Our afternoon takes us along the coastal scenic loop showcasing 13 beautiful beaches. We stop at Emu Park to visit the Singing Ship, a monument that commemorates the area’s legacy of the historical explorations of Captain James Cook. We return to our accommodation mid-afternoon to enjoy some free time downtown.
From Yeppoon we make our way to Gladstone Marina to board the Heron Island fast cat. Located in the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef, Heron Island is a haven for nature lovers and is surrounded by pristine beaches and brilliant blue waters. Enjoy two nights at Heron Island Resort, where we join naturalist eco guides for daily activities discovering the birdlife, reef walk the coral cay formations and discover native flora and fauna. We check-in to our Reef Rooms, which are located near the beach and offer reef views with a living area which extends out to a private balcony or garden. At low tide, we take the reef walk that will expose some of the most fascinating creatures found on the coral reef.
**Please note: Fast cat transfers take 2 hours and are in open waters. Those who suffer motion sickness are advised to take the necessary precautions. Optionally, at additional expense you may like to organise return helicopter transfers from Gladstone.

We enjoy a leisurely morning on beautiful Heron Island, before an early afternoon departure on the fast cat. Back on the mainland, we take a short journey to the Town of Seventeen Seventy (1770). Surrounded on three sides by the Coral Sea and Bustard Bay, 1770 is a picturesque village rich in wildlife and scenery.
This morning we take the ideal getaway on the Pink Amphibious LARC. Take in the highlights of Agnes Water by land and sea on-board a unique LARC amphibious vehicle. Our adventure takes us across tidal creeks, sandy beaches and 4WD drive trails, as you explore the Town of 1770 and Bustard Bay. We cross four tidal creeks and take a 4WD tour up the steep climb to the historic Bustard Head Light Station to take in the magnificent views and tour the lighthouse itself. Enjoy lunch on Middle Island, then get your adrenaline pumping as you try sandboarding (optional) down the dunes of Middle Island.
Homeward bound this morning, we break at historic Childers for a cuppa and time to visit the Palace Backpackers Memorial. After lunch in Gympie, we make our way back to the Brisbane Transit Centre arriving at approximately 4:30pm.
