We fly into Hobart to meet our coach captain and head to historic Richmond, home to the picturesque sandstone bridge over the Coal River. We take time for a stroll before we return to Hobart and check-in.
Today we visit Port Arthur Historic Site, part of the UNESCO World Heritage listed Australian Convict Sites. Embark on a guided walking tour of this former seaside penal colony, where we explore more than 30 restored buildings and ruins. We then set off on a 30-minute cruise on Carnarvon Bay to admire the natural beauty of this sombre site. We reboard our coach and travel back to Hobart via Eaglehawk Neck.
Merry Christmas! After a festive breakfast together, the morning is yours to relax and enjoy the facilities of our hotel or take a stroll along the waterfront. The highlight today is gathering for our Christmas Day lunch with all the trimmings. Enjoy a long sumptuous lunch with fresh Tassie delicacies, traditional fare and included beverages as we celebrate with friends old and new. A light dinner will be provided tonight at our hotel.
Discover everything that makes Bruny Island amazing as we embark on a sightseeing and food tour. Enjoy a gourmet experience and taste local fresh produce, spot wildlife in their habitat, walk the beaches, climb The Neck lookout and tour the iconic Cape Bruny Lighthouse, perched above the stunning craggy Tasmanian coastline.
Departing Hobart, we follow the Derwent Valley to historic New Norfolk and then continue on to ‘The Wall in the Wilderness', an artistic work in progress which is slowly revealing the history of the harsh Central Highlands. After lunch we make our way further west stopping at the cascading Nelson Waterfalls. Further on we view the Iron Blow open cut copper mine and stop in at Queenstown before arriving in Strahan.
Soak up the serene beauty of western Tasmania and relax in reserved premium seating as we cruise the mighty Gordon River. We pass natural landmarks like Hells Gates, which marks the entrance to Macquarie Harbour from the Southern Ocean. We disembark and visit Sarah Island, a former convict settlement and shipyard. Enjoy a smorgasbord lunch on board as we journey through the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage area before we return to Strahan for the afternoon.
Leaving Strahan, we step back in time and climb aboard the fully restored heritage carriages of the West Coast Wilderness Railway. We journey into the history of the wild west coast with our guide bringing stories of the railway and its resilient people to life. On arrival in Queenstown we re-board the coach and travel the Henty Road via Tullah to our hotel nestled in the alpine woodland of Cradle Mountain. Tonight, will be an unforgettable experience when we join Devils At Cradle on the after dark feeding tour. We will encounter a rare up-close opportunity of seeing Tasmanian devils in a group feeding situation – quite a spectacular sight.
This morning we join a guided tour, walking through the myrtles and King Billy pines at Cradle Valley to Gustav Weindorfer’s Chalet. Here we gain an insight into the early history of the Cradle Mountain area and the people who played a pivotal role in the establishment of the National Park. There’s time to view picturesque Dove Lake before we depart for the historic village of Stanley, originally established as the headquarters of the Van Diemans Land Company. We take a chairlift ride to the top of The Nut, the core of an ancient volcano, before checking-in at our hotel.
Our travels today take us along the picturesque north coast of Tasmania to Sheffield, a town with over 100 murals that depict local history and characters. Next we take in lunch in the beautiful Meander Valley at Villarett Gardens, home to 4 hectares of unique modern formal gardens. Later we arrive at Launceston’s Cataract Gorge, where we take a ride on the world’s longest single span chairlift, enjoying spectacular views of this unique piece of urban wilderness. Tonight, enjoy New Years Eve celebrations together.
Happy New Year! This morning we travel The Midlands or Heritage Highway from Launceston to Hobart. The drive has a distinctive English countryside feel with many historical towns on this route. We break at Campbell Town, a poignant reminder of Tasmania’s dark past following the Convict Brick Trail, where each engraved on each brick are authentic profiles of convicts transported to Australia, their crime and sentence. From here we travel via Ross home to one of the oldest bridges in Australia. Our journey continues through Oatlands showcasing Australia’s largest collection of Georgian sandstone architecture. We arrive in Hobart mid-afternoon for our respective flights home.

Our coach tours have a baggage restriction of 17kg per person (regardless of flight and rail allowances) due to our Occupational Health & Safety standards. Our Gold Class coaches have a seat capacity of between 44 and 46, but we cap Gold Class tours at 40 guests per tour. Our Diamond Class tours have a capacity of just 26 guests.
