Let’s face it, one of the main deciding factors when choosing a tour operator is how much you get for you money. What is included? What do you have to pay for once on the road? What are the hidden costs? Is the tour going to be value for money? That’s a lot of questions and a big financial gamble if you, the consumer, get it wrong!
Let’s get down to the nitty gritty – what exactly will you get when you invest in a Fun Over Fifty tour?
To make it nice and simple, you’ll find that we’ve included everything, AND we’re very clear about anything that isn’t included. Both our website and our brochure clearly state exactly what you are going to get for your money. And in our case, it’s pretty much everything. very few operators are brave enough to do this. To advertise rock bottom prices they cut out your essential sightseeing. It looks cheaper and appealing but once you’ve had to pay for so called optional excursions (must sees in each destination) you end up spending a whole lot more. At Fun Over Fifty we’ve selected the very best in attractions, meals and sightseeing so that you truly experience the destinations we travel to and you don’t have to worry about paying for extras along the way. You just need to sit back and enjoy the ride knowing that you’re not missing a thing!! Here on our website and within the pages of our brochure you can clearly see a list of inclusions advertised with each tour. We’ve told you exactly how many meals are provided on each day, which sights you’ll visit and even the name of the hotel or resort you’ll be staying at. We’re upfront and honest, we have no hidden extras and no surprise additional spending along the way.
Our included sightseeing takes ‘Gold Class’ to a whole new level. We’ve sourced the best, must see and do experiences throughout Australia and across the globe and we’ve included them all for your enjoyment, convenience and to ensure you truly experience all that each destination we visit has to offer. Our sightseeing presents an opportunity for you to not only discover new places but to partake in new experiences that enhance that discovery. Picture yourself taking to the skies in a helicopter over Carnarvon Gorge, or soaring high over Kings Canyon, Wilpena Pound & Lake Eyre on a scenic flight. These are standard inclusions on a Fun Over Fifty tour – not an added extra! We’ve got all the essential museums and attractions locked in for you – the Qantas Founders Museum and the Stockman’s Hall of Fame in Longreach; The Pioneer Women’s Hall of Fame in Alice Springs, The Darwin Military Museum, Scenic World in the Blue Mountains, the list goes on and on. Of course much of Australia’s essential sightseeing is all natural. Come away with us and discover some of Australia’s and the World’s most stunning natural sights including The Great Barrier Reef, Victoria Falls in South Africa, Turtle hatchlings at Mon Repos, the Bungle Bungles in the Kimberley region, or UNESCO listed world-heritage listed rainforests on Fraser Island. And you won’t just see them, you’ll experience them. Take a guided Naturalist Walk in Carnarvon Gorge or swim with the Turtles in the reef lagoon off Lady Musgrave Island – just another two examples of our standard inclusions.
Fun Over Fifty’s luxury signature ‘Gold Class’ coaches are custom built just for us and stand out from the crowd. They are sleek, contemporary and equipped with a plethora of modern features. We’ve got soft leather reclining seats with extra leg room, seat belts and footrests, panoramic tinted windows, on-board restroom, and state-of-the-art technology including Driver
Cam, DVD players and quality sound systems. We habitually upgrade our vehicles ensuring safety, comfort and reliability. As we can’t always use our own coaches (due to destination and scheduling restrictions), we contract 3rd party coach operators who supply our Comfort Plus Coaches. These coaches are top of the range, providing a first class experience that rivals any in the industry. Regardless of the mode of transport we maintain our high level of expectations regarding comfort and class. Throughout out itineraries you’ll often see the terms ‘premium seating’ and ‘gold service’. And you’ll note that as a standard inclusion we always occupy verandah staterooms, ocean view cabins and other premium options. When you travel with Fun Over Fifty you travel in style all the way!
We spend countless hours ensuring that the meals provided on tour are of the highest quality, nutritionally balanced, locally sourced where possible and representative of the region. In other words, your dining on tour will be an experience rather than just a fuel stop for your body!! We start each day with a hearty breakfast offering both cooked and continental options. Lunches tend to be lighter and dinners are either a la carte or buffet selections. We also include many specialty culinary experiences: Silver service on the colonial tramcar in Melbourne, a Croc n Crab sunset dinner in Karumba, an Outback Bush BBQ in Alice Springs and a traditional Maori Hangi in New Zealand are just a few examples to whet your appetite. Add in fine dining on trains and cruise ships, and little treats along the way (chocolate tastings, wine tasting etc) and you’ll find that your palate is taking a tour all of its very own which only adds to the full sensory experience of travelling with Fun Over Fifty.
We are incredible fussy when it comes to choosing accommodation for our tours. Each venue is hand selected to complement our touring style; we choose to partner with venues who strive to offer exceptional customer service, and all hotels and resorts sign our Agreement of Service which clearly defines our expectations of standards of service. We aim high when choosing accommodation for our tours, opting for 4 star plus venues. Understandably in some country or remote areas this is not possible, in this case we source the very best available that reflects the region we are visiting. Our itineraries clearly state where you will be staying and the rating of that accommodation. Have a look and you’ll see yourself relaxing at the Shangri-la in Cairns, spotting wildlife at Thornybush Game Lodge in South Africa or enjoying the convenience of a CBD location at the Crowne Plaza in Melbourne.
When it comes to passenger comfort and safety we make no exceptions. All of our drivers meet our strict criteria; their safety record is unblemished, their road experience second to none, and you’ll find their commentary informative and entertaining. It goes without saying that all drivers employed or contracted by Fun Over Fifty are licensed by the applicable road and traffic authority in their state or territory and have the right to drive Public Passenger Vehicles. When scheduling our yearly calendar of touring and allocating tours to drivers we have a strict fatigue management plan that ensure drivers are well rested. And our General Manager of Coach Operations is available 24/7 to assist with or manage any issues that may arise on tour.
At Fun Over Fifty we’re a little different, our select group of hostesses are not tour guides, they travel on our tours purely to ensure that everyone enjoys a smooth, hassle-free holiday. Our hostesses bring a little bit of old school glamour to our touring programs. They are selected for their professionalism and first class customer service skills. You’ll find that they welcome you with open arms making you feel immediately at ease travelling in a group environment. You’ll see our hostesses assisting the driver and working closely with our suppliers throughout the tour to ensure you all have a wonderful time.
At Fun Over Fifty we are honest and we know what we know. We also know what we don’t know and that’s when we call on local experts. To guarantee you learn and experience all that is possible when you visit our destinations, you’ll see that we often include the services of a local guide. These people are experts in their region, they are passionate and experienced with fantastic ‘ insider’ local knowledge. Be guided through the Port Arthur Penal Settlement, discover Balranald’s local heritage, unveil Beechworth’s history and head underground on a mine tour in Mt Isa with an experienced miner guide – we’ve got every inch of Australia covered with fantastic local knowledge!
Throughout our itineraries you’ll find many indigenous experiences that will give you a new understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal culture and history. With indigenous guides we make visits to sites like Ngaut Ngaut Reserve on the Murray River, we discover arts and culture at the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Centre at Ayers Rock and witness a traditional smoking ceremony in the Daintree Rainforest. We visit registered Aboriginal sacred sites, meet with Aboriginal elders, attend a dot painting workshop and learn about everything from Aboriginal rock art to Dreamtime legends.
