Over 400,000 cattle are moo-ved through Roma’s sale yards each year, making it the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere. Visitor tours run every Tuesday and Thursday at 8.30 am. There’s no need to book; meet out the front and follow one of the Akubra-sporting guides.

Take a self-guided walk past the town’s heritage buildings and beautifully landscaped CBD. You’ll also find a shopper’s delight with local specialist shops, boutiques, cafes and the Roma on Bungil Art Gallery. There are numerous places to eat in Roma, including takeaways, cafes and specialist steakhouses (this is the heart of beef country, after all).

How do you get to Roma?

It’s easy to get to Roma! The six-hour drive takes you up the Great Dividing Range to Toowoomba, then on to the Maranoa region and into cosmopolitan Roma, the gateway to Outback Queensland. A one-hour flight is available from Brisbane. Train services to Roma are available aboard The Westlander between Brisbane and Charleville.
