The original local Aboriginal people of Geraldton were the Amangu but today most identify as Yamatji or Wajarri people. The Yamaji Drive Trail takes you on a 195-kilometre journey to 14 sites of significance to local Aboriginal people living in the Geraldton, Mullewa, and Greenough areas. Yamatji is a style of Aboriginal painting that uses thousands of dots of ochre and colours sourced from the earth to create stories of the Yamatji/Wajarri culture.
Geraldton has its own regional airport, which is located about 10 kilometres east of the city centre. Several domestic airlines offer flights to Geraldton from Perth with a flight duration of approximately one hour.
Geraldton is also well-connected by road and can be reached by car from Perth in around 4-5 hours, depending on the traffic.
The Abrolhos Islands can be reached from Geraldton by booking a boat tour or charter. Several tour operators offer day trips or multi-day excursions, providing opportunities for snorkelling, diving, and exploring the islands' unique ecosystems.
